Michael San Gabino grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois and received his Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University. At Northwestern, he was the recipient of the Marie Wait Painter scholarship for outstanding academics in the Bienen School of Music. Michael studied saxophone performance with internationally renowned saxophonists Dr. Frederick L. Hemke and Dr. Timothy McAllister in addition to creative nonfiction writing. He also served as the Drum Major for the Northwestern University “Wildcat” Marching Band and received an athletic scholarship for outstanding service to the band. At WFMT, Michael is the host and producer of Introductions, a weekly showcase of the finest pre-college musicians in the Chicago area. He has also produced syndicated programs for the WFMT Radio Network, including The Film Score with Chicago Tribune film critic Michael Phillips, All the Stops with concert organist Nathan Laube, and Take Me Out to the Ball Game: A Celebration of Music and Baseball with host Carl Grapentine. Michael has interviewed some of today’s most celebrated artists for WFMT’s on-air and digital platforms. Michael was selected to participate in the 2017 Berlin Capital Program, sponsored by the German Fulbright Commission, and he has covered festivals for WFMT throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, England, France, and Poland.
